Extending a Drive in Windows Server 2003 and Above

*In Windows 2003 you must use the Command Prompt*

*In Windows 2008 or above you can use the Command Prompt or the Windows Server Manager*

Before extending the drive you must give the VM more storage, do this by:

Logging into Vsphere, finding the VM, right click the VM, Click "Edit Settings". From here either add a drive or extend an existing one.

Add or Extend, that is the question:

Add when the VM absolutely cannot be rebooted

Extend an existing whenever possible, but will require a reboot

Command Prompt Script:

Open a Command Prompt

"Disk Part"

"List Disk" or "Lis Dis"

"Sel Dis #" *#=whatever disk you are wanting to extend*

"Lis Vol"

"Sel Vol #" *#=whatever volume you are wanting to extend*

"Extend disk=#" *#=whatever disk you are wanting to extend*

Server Manager: (only in 2008 or above)

Open Server Manager, Disk Manager, right click drive and click "extend"

Notes:

If the job fails you will need to boot into Bart.

NA101_AAI_211_ag1>ISO>7.2.1.iso

Boot to bart open a command line and run the commands. Image attached show this.
